Step 1: Eligibility

Step 2: Sign up for an LTC class with Shooter’s Ed of Texas

Step 3: Apply through DPS

Cost – This fee is for DPS and separate from the fee for the LTC class at Shooter’s Ed of Texas

An original LTC costs $40. Renewals cost $40. Fees are non-refundable and non-transferrable.

Texas law does provide some discounts if you meet certain special conditions. See the complete list of fees along with the special conditions.

Step 5: Gather Supporting Documents

What You Need

Valid driver license or identification card,
Current demographic, address, contact, and employment information,
Residential and employment information for the last five years (new users only),
Information regarding any psychiatric, drug, alcohol, or criminal history,
Valid email address, and
Valid credit card (Visa, Mastercard, Discover, or American Express)
ALL FEES ARE NON-REFUNDABLE

Step 6: Submit Supporting Documents

Submit your supporting documents to DPS

The waiting period may be dependent on DPS processing load. Typically takes 60 days for completion.
